TROUBLE IN CASA BLANCA

BY RAJEEV BHATIA (Copyright reserved for this short story)

It’s a quiet day at the Heathrow Airport in London. Londoners are moving out of their cars to check in for their
Travel formalities and security checks.
“New to London?”--- asks a local Brit.
“Just on a usual business trip.”---replies John Mathew.
“Where you headed?
“Casa Blanca.”
“Well, not a cool place at all.””Any important assignment?”
“Not much in particular, just handing over export documents to our office over there.”

Working for Universal Exports required constant travels from one part of the globe to the other. This time, Mathew’s job was to look after the landing of ten container loads bound for Casa Blanca from Dubai. All the important documents, including the bill of lading were to be handed over personally to his office in Casa Blanca and also to oversee the safe landing of the consignments over there.

It was 8.45 London time and traffic at the air-strips were quite noisy! The air control towers were blaring out instructions to the incoming planes where to land their aircrafts.

Air control---“O.K. buddy, you take strip # S/5 for your baby to land.”
Pilot Michaelle--- “ Right, here I come.”
So saying, Pilot Michaelle directed his Air Bus 700 towards the strip S/5 as directed by the control tower. Air Bus 700 landed safely at Heathrow.
Another Japanese pilot, Suguma Nagamuchi was talking to the control tower in a rather tense manner. Japanese pilots are always temperamental, fidgety and tense.
Suguma---“Hey, control tower, where do I put this 747 down.?”
Control tower---“You seem to be in a lot of hurry, chum. Take landing strip S/10.
So saying, Pilot Suguma slowly brought his 747 down the runway on S/10 and landing perfectly.

Parked in the far end of the landing strip S/10 was a Jumbo 747, which Mathew thought to himself was his plane bound for Casa Blanca. Soon, it was announced on the intercom about TWA flight # 786 Jumbo Jet bound for Casa

Blanca. Mathew checked his flight plans and the ticket at the counter. Soon, Mathew was whisked in for a security check. Standing next to him was a burly pilot of TWA Flight # 786. He was a stout man, averaging 5’ 10” and sporting a big moustache and his head was covered with a mop of curly hair. He looked about 50 years in age, was a through British with all the mannerisms that go with it. He shook hands with Mathew introducing himself as only as “Keaton” …………………………..(Continued on page # 7)

_____________QUIZ-VISION NEWSLETTER_________________________________________December 2007

There will be 11 Quiz sentences in total picked up from different un-copyrighted sources on such diverse subjects as health, philosophy, emotions, literature, history, sex, etc. The Competition Compiler might also pick up Quiz Sentences from newspapers, periodicals or magazines, if he finds the Quiz Sentences interesting, knowledgeable and challenging for the competitor. In every Quiz Sentence, one extra word will be entered somewhere in the sentence by our competition compiler. The competitor will have to spot the correct original word used by the author or writer of the book, magazine, newspaper, etc. from where the Quiz Sentence is picked up and reject the compiler’s word. If he can spot all the correct answers of the QUIZ VISION competition, he will be eligible for a cash prize amount as declared by the management.

Quotations are also sentences said by someone as common as a man on the street. However, these sentences only become ‘historical’ when they have an element of truth in them. Maybe these sentences carry a message for the masses, are self-experienced or even foretell an impending future doom or discovery! Great past authors, writers, philosophers or thinkers have quoted some beautiful sentences that are still relevant today. Why? Because of “Truth’ in these quotes. Someone quoted: “A cat has nine lives” is still being spoken of today and may be believed by many. Another quote: “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Scientists have really investigated this for its veracity. Then there is another Shakespeare quote from a play: ‘The Importance Of Being Ernest’ - “They also serve who stand and wait.” Just think to yourself, this is spoken of even today. Now take another sentence –“A dog is barking on the street” cannot be called a quotation, because no message comes out of it. But observe a changed sentence…”Barking dogs seldom bite” can be called a quotation, because of its message.

Each Form of QUIZ VISION will be priced at Rs.5/= only. In this opening trial competition, a guaranteed minimum prize amount of Rs.500/= will be offered to the winner getting an all-correct entry. TROUBLE IN CASA BLANCA (Continued)

Both were proceeding towards the aircraft to board, when Mathew noticed that Keatton looked very odd as a pilot of TWA Jumbo Jet.

Dismissing his thoughts, Mathew got into the airplane 747 flight # 786 to fly to Casa Blanca. The Jumbo was filled to capacity totaling 350 passengers. Seated next to fellow passenger, Mathew asked…………….
“Hello, I am John Mathew.”
“Flloyd Patterson”—was the curt reply.
“Flloyd Patterson, who?”----asked Mathew.
“I am sent by the United States to put up a civil nuclear energy plant in Casa Blanca.”----Flloyd
“You mean, you are a nuclear scientist.”
“Yeah, you may think so.”
Mathew was totally shaken up inside and outside to meet such a top person from the USA.

_____________QUIZ-VISION NEWSLETTER_______________________________________December 2007

TWA Jumbo 747 took off from Heathrow at 10.30 local time. It was one of the smoothest take offs that Mathew had ever experienced in his ten years of air travel. The passengers also settled comfortably in their seats by putting their half folded magazines over their faces.

The plane was flying at an altitude of 35,000 feet for close to half an hour now. There were two air hostesses and two flight attendants on the TWA flight # 786. In the cockpit, there was the navigator and the two pilots. Everything was quiet in the aircraft, when suddenly, one of the flight attendants rushed to the front of the plane with a revolver in his hand and ordered …………………….
“Please, be seated, this is a highjack. No one will get hurt and no funny games from anyone.”
One of the excited passengers got up from his seat to say something, but he was immediately hit on his head with the butt of the revolver. Bleeding profusely, he sank into his seat. Many of the passengers did not even know what was happening as they were all fast asleep!

Highjacker……..“ I wish to inform you that all the four crew and the pilots and the navigator are a part of this highjack.”

Soon, one of the pilots, who was standing next to Mathew for security checkup came out of the cockpit over the inside of the aircraft. Mathew was shocked to se that this was the same burly pilot he had met. Who would have
Imagined that he would be on of the highjack! He announced….. “Ladies and gentlemen, this is Keaton, please relax
In your seats. We have nothing against the passengers. They are only means to our demands.” Mathew wondered:
“God forbid, if their demands are not met, these thugs will kill all the passengers.” ( To be continued)
Flloyd whispered to Mathew: “What will be their demands?”
Then, it dawned on Mathew that these highjackers are disguised as pilots and the crew. But, what has happened to the real pilots and the crew? No one knew the answer.
Soon, Keaton came over--- “I want US$ 10 million in exchange for the passengers and the plane.

Meanwhile, TWA flight # 786 was cruising at a steady speed without any problems. Now, the contact between the USA Government and the highjackers was established. The US President was a worried man and his team of advisers were running here and there and frantically trying to find an answer to the highjackers demands and wondering about the fate of the passengers’ lives.

The President hatched a plan to thwart the highjackers attempt for extortion. The Israel secret service were
contacted. The plan was to carry the money in four bags by the Israel secret service disguised as delivery boys.

Said the US President---“ Keaton, this is the President. We shall deliver US$ 10 million when you land in Casa Blanca.”
Keaton----“ Its O.K., provided you don’t have any devilish plans in your mind.”

So, heavily armed four Israeli secret service agents were ready to be air dropped over the Casa Blanca airport. Soon, and an Israeli air force plane hovered over Casa Blanca airport and the four were parachuted on the airfield. They
were armed with deadly weapons, like laser guns, smith’s silent revolvers, tear gas shells, hand grenades, etc. They were also carrying the extortion money of US$ 10 million in four large leather bags.
After a while, a TWA flight was sighted, which was about to land. TWA flight # 786 landed safely amongst dense fog and rain. The plane taxied slowly towards the air-field and stopped in the middle of the runaway as a sign of provocation.
Israel secret service…………. “Boys, here they come.”
“Lets hide ourselves in the bushes.”…….said one of them
“No, that will be too obvious.”………replied the other.
“Then, lets split ourselves into twos.”…………observed the third one.
So, two of the agents walked cautiously towards the belly of the aircraft and waited. The other two guys gave
the signal to the pilot highjacker and showed him the bag of money.

Meanwhile, the two agents who were hiding under the belly of the aircraft opened its hatch and squeezed himself
_____________QUIZ-VISION NEWSLETTER_______________________________________December 2007

through the opening. They were in the cargo section of the plane. Then they inserted a remote control camera attached to a wire into a small opening of the tail section of the plane. Now, they were able to see the passengers and also the two gun wielding highjackers.
One of the agents climbed a small staircase towards the passenger section. He got behind one of the highjackers and slit his throat, who dropped dead as a potato.

He called the other highjacker…………“Hello, here I am.” As soon as the highjacker turned, the secret service agent shot him in the middle of his head, between his eye-brows. He sank and fell down in the passage of the plane.
There were loud shrieks and moans amongst the shocked passengers. But, after a while, the travelers regained their composure.
And, the other two highjackers in the cockpit did not know anything what was going on in the passenger section.

The way now was clear for the other two agents to move into the plane. The four agents together worked on a plan to throw a tear gas shell into the cockpit to flush out the remaining bad guys. So, one of the secret agents went near the cockpit and knocked on the door. As soon as the door was opened, a huge tear gas shell was tossed inside the cockpit. The shell exploded into a blinding cloud of white gas in the cockpit. Before the highjackers knew what was happening, the gas had engulfed the entire cockpit. No one could see each other. The two highjackers ran out coughing and rubbing their blood shot eyes burning with pain!
Immediately, they were apprehended and beaten badly by the secret service agents. They were hand-cuffed and taken to the police for further questioning. The two air hostesses were unharmed and also taken into custody.

All the passengers heaved a sigh of relief and thanked the Israeli secret service for their bravery and guts in saving their lives. It was indeed a diabolic time for everyone on this flight # 786 in Casa Blanca.
